About Us
We are an uncle-nephew team. Jim, the uncle, is a 4th generation, full-time professional rancher in Nebraska. He’s a serial entrepreneur who has owned restaurants, solar companies and currently leads his local burn association, helping neighbors perform prescribed fires. Chad, the nephew, is a Coloradan, wannabe rancher, with a master’s degree in Rangeland Stewardship from Colorado State University. Chad has spent his career helping dairy farmers monetize their cow manure by turning it into renewable natural gas.
The family has always fed themselves with top notch ground beef, straight from the ranch. However, the idea for Better Ground didn’t come until we did a blind taste test of the most expensive ground beef we could find versus our ground beef. The unanimous winner was, obviously, our ranch’s ground beef. We thought, those poor suckers in Denver will never know what ranch ground beef tastes like until…. oh wait, maybe they can. We founded Better Ground so that those without access to a ranch can still eat like a rancher.
While supplying the best tasting ground beef ever, we also wanted to offer our perspective on the great things happening on more “conventional” ranches, which seem to be getting a bad rap these days. Most of our ranching neighbors are doing their best to steward their land in nature positive ways. We’ll use this platform to share those stories and more.
